Speaking Rhetorically is a Brisbane based public speaking and critical thinking coaching organisation that challenges and supports students to find their original voice.

A classical rhetoric approach

We offer a weekly program designed to grow students’ abilities in both critical thinking and public speaking. The program is designed using a combination of ancient rhetorical approaches and modern understandings of communication. Students will face a unique challenge each week designed to work on all aspects of public speaking.

For people preparing for a particular occasion or goal, we offer private coaching sessions. Whether it be for a school, professional, or family occasion, we have packages and expertise to help you develop a speech that you will be proud of delivering.

What sets us apart

Speaking Rhetorically has been developed through expertise in classroom teaching, communication theory, and classical rhetoric. Our unique approach aims to develop students critical thinking skills alongside their speech writing and impromptu speaking skills. We believe that you need to know what you’re going to say before you can focus on how you are going to say it.

Students who join the Speaking Rhetorically programs can expect to become accomplished thinkers and speakers. Gaining a solid grounding in critical thinking, logical thinking process, and argumentation enables our students to be inspiring and effective communicators in every setting on every topic. Eliciting each student’s authentic voice means prioritising these skills so that they can optimise their message.

We prioritise the development of student skill through the creation of their own texts, rather than performing texts written by others. We believe in our students’ voices and their ability to craft meaningful and interesting messages.

We acknowledge the Jagera people and the Turrbal people as the Traditional Custodians of Meanjin (Brisbane), the lands on which we meet, work and learn. We pay our respects to Jagera and Turrbal Elders past, present and emerging.
